Where science talks and bullshit walks (and Memes live)

Everyone knows we NEED jobs and growth Adam !

Jobs and growth PM's top achievements

looks like Mals government has achieved so little in his first year that the best thing he can think of to describe it is "Jobs and Growth".

I have two big problems with the measurement of Jobs and Growth to measure a governments performence

  • A govenment can buy it using our tax dollars
  • It is usually trotted out in defence of some offensive action like the Adani Coal Mine

Like: we know it will destroy the GBR, but you are not thinking about the jobs.

Actually I don't thing 1500 jobs are woth killing a natural wonder of the world.

Great Barrier Reef coral bleaching could cost $1b in lost tourism, research suggests
"Along with visitor numbers, the potential loss of tourism revenue represents almost one-third of the $3.3 billion spent by holiday visitors to reef regions each year, which supports between 39,000 and 45,000 jobs," the Australia Institute's report states.

So Adani: 1500 jobs and $60 billion, vs The Great Barrier reef: 42,000 jobs and $20 billion ($1 billion per year over the 20 year life of the mine)

I will take the GBR thank you very much!
